As a subject responsible archaeologist, you have the scientific responsibility for Jamtli's archaeological activities where your knowledge and many years of experience are important as support for your colleagues and also for the public who turn to the county museum with their questions. You are part of a department that mainly works with archaeology, cultural landscapes, and building history, but also as support for the entire organization in matters of prehistory and later cultural heritage.

Who are you?

In the role of an antiquarian with subject responsibility for archaeology, your personal qualities are important. You need to be attentive, meticulous, have a good approach, and have a good ability to collaborate. You have many years of experience working at a county museum or a similar organization with a wide range of tasks in archaeology and cultural history in general. You can prioritize tasks and perform them within given time frames.

You have:

• An academic degree with archaeology as the main subject, at least a BA, MA, or equivalent. Research education is a merit.
• Experience in case handling in public administration, especially based on the Cultural Heritage Act, the Planning and Building Act, and the Environmental Code.
• Deeper knowledge of the prehistory of northern Sweden where experience of work in the northern counties is a merit.
• Many years of experience in fieldwork where you have had your own responsibility in a managerial position for the implementation of investigations and surveys, from planning to reporting and financial final reporting.
• Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both speech and writing.
• Driver's license and solid computer skills in the Office package, ArcGIS, and QGIS.

Job duties

The position is part of the museum's cultural environment department. Together with your colleagues, you create and carry out externally funded projects and perform services in the contract archaeological field. The work includes being one of the museum's publicly funded resources regarding cultural environment issues, such as matters related to ancient monuments and responding to referrals in planning and construction matters. You answer questions from an interested public and support associations and organizations regarding knowledge of prehistory and cultural history in general. As a subject responsible, you are a scientific support for the museum's other archaeologists and have subject responsibility for parts of the exhibitions and the archaeological collection in collaboration with the county museum's collection management. You initiate research projects and maintain collaborations with universities and other organizations in the subject area. The position also includes outward work such as lecturing at the museum and at external events on your subject area and supervising students doing internships at the museum.
